Inspiration comes from daily walks on my local beach. I often pick up a limpet shell and like to study their unique mark making. No two are the same! I especially love the beach at low tide, investigating the rock pools. Did you know limpets have teeth and are able to travel on the rock surface in search of food. They have a very powerful foot that enables them to cling onto the rock surface during strong tidal currents. I find them fascinating! My limpets are based on the Eurasian limpet, Patella Vulgata and the common barnacle, balanus perforatus. Handcrafted felt is made using the wet felting technique with layers of Merino wool fibres, nepps and hand dyed silk to create lots of texture and interest. The limpets are hand stitched with artisan painted merino wool thread. Limpets & Barnacles has been professionally framed in a bespoke bare wood St Ives frame. I am proud to use wooden frames that come from an FSC certified forest. 'FSC - certified forests are managed with consideration for people, wildlife and the environment.' The picture has been mounted onto board and set beneath the St Ives frame, this style of frame is open, unglazed so work can be touched, it is very tactile! £225

Three Limpets
The fourth of my limpet studies.
Inspiration comes from daily walks on my local beach. I often pick up a limpet shell and like to study their unique mark making. No two are the same! I especially love the beach at low tide, investigating the rock pools.
This study looks at the limpets as the tide is turning, semi submerged in water a time when they are active and able to feed. Did you know limpets have teeth and are able to travel on the rock surface in search of food. They have a very powerful foot that enables them to cling onto the rock surface during strong tidal currents. I find them fascinating!
